Got this quest a second time after completing it last week. If it's anything like the Stormheim quest then there's no point in completing this a second time (oh god, just thinking about it makes me shudder) because you've already gotten the Starlight Beacon from the initial completion. I assume it's a bug.

This quest leads to Echoes of My Ancestors which requires 25 solves in Azsuna.
Finishing the 25 solves will lead to digging one site and eventually rewards Starlight Beacon

Sooo..... Anyone know what the purpose of this quest is?

I have this quest in my log for some time now. Today I tried for the third time if the NPC would be where he is supposed to be in Azsuna. NPC is not there. I do see some of his friends there. Or his family, or perhaps even his lovers? One speaks of 'pounding' so I don't know what's going on there. But my point is. I have no idea how to complete this quest. When I abandon it shows up available in Dalaran again.

Ok, the people who posted on this quest are really worthless. I came here to decide if I was going to do this based on the comments. The grind that was mentioned of 25 projects didn't sound too bad (though it took a long time). But then I turned that in and got this quest next : A Beacon of Hope which requires you to dig in a PVP area and the worst pvp area for sure Operation Merloc Freedom. I don't mind pvp normally but world pvp in this game is terrible.
Be nice if someone here mentioned the PVP aspect. Luckily it's not so hard to get around, I had to wait 3 hours until Operation Merloc Freedom was no longer up and then I could go dig there in peace.
Anyway decided to do this (not knowing about the pvp part), even though I'd given up doing arch this xpac, because I figured the reward (Starlight Beacon) would probably be converted into a toy at some point and I collect toys.
If you're like me and you just want to complete this as fast as possible probably the most important thing you can do is buy as many Ancient Suramar Scroll from your ah as possible before beginning. This made a huge difference for me and it still took a long time.
Tons of rng will decide how long this takes:
  • How many frags you get each dig, can be from 5 to 9
  • Which dig area pops up and if you have to kill a lot of mobs while digging
  • Which of the 5 finds you can create did you get. I kept getting the most expensive ones, they range from 35 to 120 fragments. Just to give you an idea in my 25 finds I created 6 Quietwine Vial, 4 Violetglass Vessel, 3 Inert Leystone Charm, 6 Pre-War Highborne Tapestry and 6 Nobleman's Letter Opener
  • How many Angry Highborne Spirit show up for you to kill
  • How many Lost Highborne Journal do you find, these are something different to Azsuna I didn't know about

Just to give you an idea, I was able to buy 20 Ancient Suramar Scroll in my ah and they lasted till I got to about 20 projects discovered (I found a bunch while digging too of course). I was able to level my toon from about level 350 to 631 in Arch.

A word of warning: unless you enjoy one of the worst grinding experiences in recent expansions, or you are like me, looking for an excuse to quit WoW, don't bother with this bull&*!@ quest chain.
I have been playing since open beta, and this is one of the worst quest chains I have ever done, which says a lot. The only upside is that I have been losing interest in this game for the last couple years, and this is the final straw. I probably even have to thank this @#$%up for saving me money on subscription and future expansion. Too bad I cancelled subscription before completing this, otherwise I could for once fill a constructive reason for cancellation. Not that it would do much, judging by how blizzard is doing things nowadays.
I just really want to know who designed this quest chain and if not the same person, who designed legion professions in general, so I could avoid whatever companies these incompetent buffoons are going to work for in the future.

This isn't a traditional repeatable/daily quest, yet it can be repeated.
Wowhead quest tracking will not mark this as complete so, if you track with character profile here, you'll need to exclude/ignore this one.

Why is this quest's reward Starlight Beacon still not a Toy yet, Blizz? ಠ_ಠ
Had this thing banked for so long.
