After you set up Find My, you can locate a lost or stolen device or item, or even help a friend find their missing device. You can also share your location with friends, family, and contacts, ask to follow a friend’s location, or get directions to a friend’s location.

How to turn on Find My for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap your name, then tap Find My.
  3. If you want friends and family to know where you are, turn on Share My Location.
  4. Tap Find My [device], then turn on Find My [device].
  5. To see your device even when it's offline, turn on Find My network.*
  6. To have the location of your device sent to Apple when the battery is low, turn on Send Last Location.

If you want to be able to find your lost device on a map, make sure that Location Services is turned on. To do this, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, and turn on Location Services.

How to add an AirTag or supported third-party product to Find My

In the latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, you can keep track of AirTags and supported third-party products with the Find My app.

To use Precision Finding and see the most accurate location for your AirTag, make sure to turn on Location Access for Find My. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, then scroll down and tap Find My. Check While Using the App or While Using the App or Widgets, and turn on Precise Location.

How to turn on Find My for your Mac

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences.
  2. Click Security & Privacy, then click the Privacy tab. If the padlock in the lower left is locked , click it, then enter the name and password of the administrator.
  3. Select Location Services.
  4. Select the Enable Location Services checkbox, and make sure that the checkbox next to Find My is selected.
  5. Click Done, then return to the main System Preferences window.
  6. Click Apple ID, then click iCloud.
  7. Select the checkbox next to Find My Mac.
  8. To make sure you can find your Mac if it's ever lost or stolen, click Options. Check that Find My Mac is On and Find My network is On.* Then click Done.
